Democrats have two main talking points in the wake of their swamping in Minnesota. (1) The Republicans and Scott Walker outspent them, so this was really about money, not declining public support for government unions. (2) Walker has done a crummy job creating jobs in Wisconsin.
My answers: (1) The Democrats started this fight by launching an unjust recall and raised tens of millions of dollars from outside the state to unseat Walker, so if they were outspent (and I seriously doubt they were), then that was their problem. What did they expect Walker to do–lie down? That’s politics. (2) If Walker didn’t have to spend all his time fighting off the recall, perhaps the job figures would be better. All I know is, they’re better than they would have been.
