“What we don’t yet know, however, is who carried out this attack or why, whether it was planned and executed by a terrorist organization, foreign or domestic, or was the act of a malevolent individual,” he said. “Clearly, we are at the beginning of our investigation. It will take time to follow every lead and determine what happened—but we will find out.”
It took him a day to finally figure this out? And why is he asking “Why?” Is there any answer that would explain this act away? It was insane, or evil, or, more likely, both. To ask why it happened is to, in some sense, take the grievances of the terrorists seriously. Doesn’t have quite the same ring as George W. Bush saying bin Laden was wanted “dead or alive,” does it?
