Faithful and Effective

Well, as I’ve been telling people, nothing in this life lasts, and our family is getting a dose of that reality now. On Friday, Christine Guthrie, my gorgeous, faithful, and brilliant wife of 26 years, found out that her position as Bible Production Coordinator at Crossway has been eliminated. Christine is grateful for the opportunity to work there for the last four-plus years, winning the job mere weeks after I lost my position at Christianity Today. So we really viewed this position as God’s provision for our family. She has given Crossway very faithful and effective service during an extremely busy time in the growth of the ESV Bible and its many, many editions.

She was a key contributor who constantly solved problems and kept things running smoothly in allowing you to read and profit from your ESV Bible, which in my mind is the best translation available. She, and her cheerful, can-do demeanor, will be greatly missed there, I’m sure.

Christine’s full-time position at Crossway also enabled me to pursue my full-time freelance career, which goes under the name of Stan Guthrie Communications. Because of Christine, I was able to pursue many projects I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to do–books, scripts, being a literary agent, etc. Only the Lord realizes the full extent of Christine’s many contributions to the kingdom.

Well, now we look to the future. We will both be seeking full-time jobs (with benefits), eager to see what the Lord will provide. While I plan to continue my freelance business (at least in some form), I will be in the market for a suitable position, too. Please let me know if you hear of something that looks like a fit for either of us. Our desire is to stay in Wheaton, but we will go where the Lord leads. We both have resumes, so just ask. Thanks for spreading the word!

Above all (and I mean this sincerely), we appreciate your prayers. God bless you for your love and concern.
