The Latest Lie

During last night’s speech justifying an American attack that he no longer wishes to launch, President Obama said he has “asked” Congress to postpone a vote giving him approval for the strike while the diplomatic process continues. Just the latest lie–albeit a small one–from a man who, to put it kindly, has a credibility problem. There will be no vote because the president didn’t have the votes, even from his own party. And wouldn’t the diplomatic initiative receive fresh momentum with an authorization from Congress that the president can strike Syria if the Russian plan fails? Now Mr. Obama has no leverage and must rely on the good will of Vladimir Putin. That’s a fool’s bet.
