Seven full years into “Hope and Change,” the two leading successors to Barack Obama are lapping the field because they have tapped into the public’s growing rage. And why are so many so angry, and why are so few happy with the president’s stewardship?
Donald Trump says we are run by incompetent, stupid leaders, while Bernie Sanders says the economic system is “rigged.” Assuming their critiques are true, just who are these incompetents who have rigged the system? It’s the Democrats, who are supposedly for the downtrodden and the little guy.
So why would we vote for a lifelong Democrat such as Trump, who has consistently rigged the system in his favor, or a lifelong socialist such as Sanders, who supports even more intrusive and draconian policies that will further choke off economic growth and opportunity? It’s these kinds of people who have gotten us into this mess.
Rage, at least in small doses, can feel really good. But pursued as a lifestyle, very rarely does it lead to good decisions.
