In 2012, the English poet Ruth Padel accepted a commission from Manchester’s Hallé Orchestra to write poems that would be read between the movements of Joseph Haydn’s “The Seven Last Words of Our Savior on the Cross.”
I’ve participated as a reader several times thanks to the courtesy of the Vermeer String Quartet. One of my meditations, for “I Thirst,” made it into an anthology put together by my friend Richard Young, called Echoes from Calvary: Meditations from Franz Joseph Haydn’s The Seven Last Words of Christ.
