As pastor of outreach at College Church in Wheaton, a sizable part of my job is to mobilize the church for evangelism. Some days, instead of calling people to share Christ, it feels more like I’m asking them to open their mouths for a root canal. At some point it dawned on me that many of us might actually prefer to have dental surgery than talk about Jesus in public. And the reason for this just might be that we don’t understand the term evangelism.
