Stem cell research can continue to get federal funding, appeals court rules

By David G. Savage, Washington Bureau

Scientists hail the decision as a victory for medical progress. The ruling reverses a lower court’s stance that using federal money to study human embryonic stem cells appeared to violate a congressional ban on funding of research in ‘which embryos are destroyed.’

Shame on Francis Collins, who ought to know better. This decision will lead to more taxpayer funding of embryo destruction (directly or indirectly) and will drain needed money away from the much more effective (and ethically neutral) adult stem cell research.
