The Economy Needs a Regulation Time-Out

By Susan Collins

Why send jobs overseas by creating more rules for American business?

Two thoughts:

1. The answer to this question is that the administration would rather see American jobs lost forever if those jobs at all infringe on environmental or labor perfectionism. Team Obama either wants to create jobs on its terms (see “green jobs”) or it wants to create no jobs at all.

2. Collins doesn’t go far enough. A one-year moratorium is no better than a measly temporary tax credit to hire workers. Employers need to be able to plan several years into the future. But this is a start. I’d like to end all non-essential environmental regulations and start over.
