President Obama keeps saying that he “didn’t know” how bad the economy was when he first took office, and that is why it is still so bad now. As they always say, ignorance is no excuse. First, he was the incoming president; he had access to all the economic data that existed. If he didn’t know, it’s because he didn’t want to know. There were no secret statistics and trends that the Bush administration was keeping from him; it was all a matter of record. Second, Mr. Obama has done nothing but make the economy worse, so no matter how bad the economy was that he “inherited,” he should be judged on his results, not on his starting place.
