Whether they were wise for someone who might be contemplating a presidential campaign, Rick Santorum’s 2008 comments to a religious audience about a personal devil are consistent with the beliefs of a huge section of America. And I wonder whether citizens, ever urged to be “tolerant,” and who will be paying $4 or $5 per gallon at the pump this summer, will care all that much about Santorum’s theology. One thing is for sure: Mitt Romney is in no position to take advantage.
