With Donald Trump now inaugurated, all Americans should wish their new president well, whatever their misgivings about his character and fitness for office.

Yesterday I saw him soberly lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Perhaps the gravity of the awesome job before him will help Trump to grow in the faith and virtue he will need to carry it out. As Lincoln said, “I have been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had no where else to go.”

If Trump succeeds in revitalizing America, we all win, whatever our politics. If he fails, we all lose. I believe that, politically speaking, Trump and the Republicans are walking on the edge of a knife. If they fall off, America will quickly and perhaps irretrievably fall back into the iron grip of the progressive, secular Left.

Friends, let us pray.
