Moment

With Americans deeply concerned about inflation, Ukraine, and COVID-19, among other issues, we tuned in to President Biden’s address last night to see if he was up to the task and ready for the moment. He clearly wasn’t.

In what looked like a replay of a typical liberal laundry list of spending and social programs, the president tried to whip up enthusiasm for tired-sounding initiatives such as such as federally subsidized “childcare,” saying it was time for women to “get back to work” (!), as if mothers who raise their kids at home aren’t doing real work, and as if the thing that kids really need, after the stress of a two-year pandemic, is to be sent off to a daycare facility.

What world are Joe Biden and his allies living in? The lies and exaggerations just kept coming. We needed to pass his “green energy” program to save money! Anyone making less than $400,000 will pay “not one penny” more! (Maybe not *one* penny, but *lots* of pennies.)

I wish the president well. He is, after all, our president, and his decisions affect not only America but the world. But I wonder if he will ever get serious about the job in front of him and stop with the liberal talking points.

This morning Christine summed up the “state of the union” speech succinctly: “Bill Clinton called and wants his domestic policy back.”
