Donald Trump, who a few days ago made such a show of trotting out the late Bill Buckley in his defense of “New York values,” now dismisses National Review, which Buckley founded, as a “dying paper.” With Trump, all that matters are ratings and the bottom line, never principles. Of course, if NR had somehow abandoned its conservative principles and endorsed this longtime New York liberal instead of criticizing him, is there any doubt that The Donald would have lionized the magazine today? Hell hath no fury like a demagogue scorned.
