Trick

donkey hoteyAfter getting blown out in the debate, Donald Trump got the hat trick this weekend, with endorsements from Chris Christie, Jeff Sessions, and … David Duke. Trump not only flubbed his response to the former grand wizard of the KKK (or is that grand dragon?), he approvingly re-tweeted a quote from Mussolini. His fans must be disappointed that Trump didn’t find a suitable pithy saying from Hitler. Oh, well, the week is young!

Seriously, the endorsement by Sessions is mystifying. We’ve known for years that Christie’s main principle is self-advancement, but Ted Cruz worked with the Alabama senator to block President Obama’s end-run on immigration. I understand that a lot of Cruz’s Senate colleagues may not like him, but given the choice of Cruz or Trump and the implosion of the Republican Party and a Hillary presidency, they need to back Cruz … or Rubio.

Unless, like Trump, they, too, have no principle other than “winning.”
