With his end run around Congress on immigration, President Obama has succeeded, at least for the moment, in one of his objectives–turning attention away from his lousy economy. But even if his ideas are worth discussing, I don’t see how the executive order can really work. First, as long as the border remains unsecured, any acts of “compassion” on this side of the border will only prompt more acts of desperation on the other side. Second, with jobs so scarce for U.S. citizens, does it really make economic sense to encourage non-citizens to take them?
